The Poe Building at 617 High Street was built around 1960. It is modern and linear, with an emphasis on the horizontal plane. The structure is composed of two intersection volumes, a tall square and a long, narrow rectangle. The ground level is accented with Roman brick water table. The upper floor is clad with vertical wood siding. The south side is clad in vertical corrugated metal. The flat roof and awnings are cantilevered on huge beams. Metal frame windows, arranged in banks of three, are placed flush with the exterior wall in a ribbon window arrangement.
