Community Outreach & Events
Oregon City Police is dedicated to fostering strong connections with our community through a variety of engaging and informative events throughout the year. Here, you'll find a list of our annual events designed to promote safety, education, and community spirit.
The Oregon City Police Department Citizen Academy is a free, comprehensive 10-week program designed to provide community members with an in-depth understanding of the inner workings of their local police department. Participants get an opportunity to learn about the various functions, departments, and specialized units within the police force. The academy aims to foster stronger community relationships, enhance transparency, and educate citizens about the challenges and responsibilities faced by law enforcement officers. Through interactive sessions, hands-on activities, and engaging discussions, attendees gain valuable insights into police operations, crime prevention, and public safety, ultimately empowering them to contribute to a safer and more informed community.
Prescription Drug Takeback
Each year in April and October, the Oregon City Police Department, in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), hosts free Prescription Drug Take-Back events. These events provide a safe, anonymous, and convenient way for community members to dispose of unwanted or expired prescription medications. The initiative aims to prevent medication misuse and environmental contamination by ensuring that drugs are disposed of properly. By participating in these take-back events, residents contribute to a safer community by reducing the risk of prescription drug abuse and safeguarding their homes and the environment.
Women & Teen Girl Self Defense Classes
OCPD Defensive Tactics Instructors lead free self-defense classes for women and teen girls, teaching practical skills and strategies for personal safety. Class sizes are limited and registration is set on a first come, first serve basis.
National Night Out
National Night Out is an annual event held on the first Tuesday of August, dedicated to promoting police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. The Oregon City Police Department hosts a free community event at the End of the Oregon Trail Center, inviting residents to come together for an enjoyable evening filled with live music, free food, and engaging activities. This event aims to strengthen relationships between the police and the community, enhance public safety awareness, and foster a sense of unity. National Night Out provides a wonderful opportunity for families and individuals to interact with local law enforcement in a relaxed, festive atmosphere while enjoying various forms of entertainment and community bonding.
