810 Van Buren Street

CHRIS MOEHNKE RENTAL -- Statement of Significance: Chris Moehnke, Jr., born in Oregon in 1879, was a member of a large family of German émigrés who settled in the Beavercreek/Oregon City area. As Mr. Moehnke was a carpenter, he may have constructed this house himself. He lived with his wife Marie on 3rd Street and used this house as a rental.

The bungalow at 810 Van Buren Street has been altered over the years. The original siding has been covered in asbestos ceramic shingle. The windows have been replaced with either fixed picture or aluminum sliders. The full-width porch was removed and replaced with a smaller one. The eave-less roof is gabled, and the plan is rectangular. The house is not on the 1911 Sanborn, first appearing on the 1925 Sanborn with a garage. The garage has since been removed. An addition to the rear is post-1925, pre-1950. Large rhododendrons mark the corners of the house. An early rubble wall lines the sidewalk of the sloping lot.

This property is a locally designated historic site located within the McLoughlin Conservation District. Contact ocplanning@orcity.org for more information.
