Apply for a Building Permit

Why do I need a permit?

There is a lot of misinformation about the need for and process of obtaining a permit for work on your home or property. The truth is, a permit protects your property not just from damage due to faulty or incomplete work, but makes sure you are protected should a disaster happen. For instance, if a home has unpermitted electrical work and experiences a house fire, it is very unlikely that the insurance provider will cover the repairs. In addition, you may have trouble selling your home if there is work that was done without a permit. A permit is a relatively small price to pay for the peace of mind knowing your work is done right, and done to code.

Check out this article for more information about the benefits of obtaining the proper permits.

Feel free to come into the office at 695 Warner Parrott Rd. or send an email to permits@orcity.org and we can answer all of your permitting questions!

Oregon ePermits -

We allow contractors to apply for permits online through the State of Oregon in a program called "E-Permits". This program does not allow for homeowners to create their own permits.

We've joined forces with the Oregon Building Codes Division to allow contractors to pull limited-scope, over-the-counter electrical, mechanical, and plumbing permits online. The permits available on this site do not require plans, calculations, other agency approval, or staff interaction.
